You’ve all heard the shaggy dog story that George Lucas’ pet hound, Indiana, was the inspiration  behind Chewbacca. For Chewbacca’s signature roar, producer Gary Kurtz’s brief to sound designer Ben Burtt specified that Chewbacca should sound like an animal, but audiences should be able to understand his emotions.
