MY FAVOURITE THING “This shirt is something I am currently trying to find any excuse to wear; I’m obsessed with it! On the surface I really like the look and feel of the shirt; it’s made in an organic cotton sateen and it was a dream to sew. I used the Minimalist Shirt pattern by indie designers Tobias Konrath which is a boxy, oversized, gender-inclusive design with a raft of suggested hacks. I’ve sewn about six shirt patterns over the last few years, and I can easily say that this is my favourite. It’s such a fun, quick make; there are no tricky cuffs or plackets to worry about, and it taught me a new skill – French seams. I had always been wary of these, but the beautifully illustrated…

Eight years ago I learnt to sew. At the same time, I learnt pattern making, and I loved it so much that I decided to train myself professionally. HOW TO MEASURE YOURSELF ACCURATELY ALWAYS MEASURE YOURSELF BEFORE you choose a pattern size to cut out. The sizes do vary greatly from pattern to pattern, so it’s always best to measure yourself accurately and then refer to the pattern’s size chart to find your size. The chart will usually be printed on the pattern envelope or on the instructions inside. Measure yourself in your underwear and preferably in the bra you’ll be wearing underneath your garment as this can alter the measurements slightly. Use a fabric tape measure as it’ll curve around your body well for accuracy. You can measure on your own if you stand in front of a mirror, but, for best results, ask a friend to help so they can check the tape measure is sitting…
