TRY A CROCHET SEAM A crochet seam can be a good choice for joining two sections of lace knitting, or where it can be tricky to see the ‘ladders’ between stitches, or when you’re working with a yarn that splits or has an unusual texture. Crochet seams are also useful to baste two pieces of knitting you want to try on and check the fit - they’re easier to ‘unzip’ than sewn seams. A crochet seam looks the same on the right side of the garment as mattress stitch (1), while on the wrong side of the work you can see a chain of crochet stitches running up the seam (2).
