IN THIS DAY AND AGE, MANY OF US KEEP A FIREARM HANDY for any “trouble” that may come our way, just in case. Sometimes it’s a handgun, since it is, well, so “handy.” But back in the 19th century, a different approach was often used. In those days, a double-barreled shotgun, loaded with buckshot, was frequently the arm of choice. Interestingly, while some people may not realize it, the double is still a good choice for protecting the home and hearth today.
I recently decided that such an approach would be prudent for my own needs. Maybe it was the daily news or me watching too many Gunsmoke reruns. But, in any event, I started looking into “defense” shotguns.
