THE FIELD Trials Team GB recently competed for the first time at the FCI World Championship Practical Hunting for Pointers and Setters, and the St. Hubert Championship held in Niš, Serbia, thanks to the support of the Kennel Club.
This was the 37th world championship, with 29 teams competing from countries including Russia, Turkey, Iceland, USA and Brazil. Team captain was Meryl Asbury with English setter Upperwood Sacre Bleu, and the team vet was Rob Gould with German long-haired pointer Wamilanghaar Djynn. Other competitors were Sara Chichester with Gordon setters Wiscombe Tomintoul and Little Treasure of Gawcott; and Maddy Raynor with Irish setter Bownard Carrabullawn of Wiscomber.
Handlers had to make their way through maize, chillies, wheat, stubble, plough and weed and, under FCI rules, ran for 15 minutes.
