What Richard Nicholson, Selby’s full-time development officer, describes as “an extraordinary injury list” has plummeted the side towards the foot of Yorkshire One. Nicholson said: “Five players have sustained broken bones, alongside other long-term injuries. It meant we blooded several youngsters but there are positive signs that they’re adjusting to the pace and physicality of the senior game.”
Centre Sam Weller, ten seasons with the club, is in his first as captain, while Sean Houltham, master in charge of rugby at Pocklington School, is the backs coach. Founded in 1933, Selby have enjoyed memorable days, notably when beating Drybrook 29-25 in the 2013 Senior Vase final at Twickenham.
