“The physio couch is where you unload worries” THE DAY-TO-DAY working environment of a professional rugby club is its own little bubble, cut off completely from the concerns of the wider world. I imagine that, in this sense, many ‘civilian’ workplaces are the same, with the usual in-jokes, house slang, gossip, petty intrigues and the overriding feeling that what they do – whether it’s investment banking or manufacturing fork handles – is essential to the proper functioning of the universe.
You’ll notice the preface ‘I imagine’ to that sentence, as essentially I have zero knowledge of normal working life, and have less than zero interest in attaining it. But I’ve read about work in books and seen it on the TV. Looks horrible.
