We’ve all seen the recent spate of penalties and yellow and red cards issued for players being ‘played’ in the air – some justified, others maybe not. I suspect many agree that whether a player lands on his neck, shoulder or feet cannot be the deciding factor as to whether the sanction is a red card, a yellow or a penalty.
A simple solution would be to outlaw players being able to jump in an attempt to win the ball. This would immediately take away the risk that a player could be tipped on his head by an opponent.
