My father, John Wentzel, and his sister, Stella, were born in Newton, Kansas.
They both joined the armed services during World War II. Dad was in the Army and Stella, in the Women’s Army Corps. There she met Louise Riederer, from New Rochelle, New York. Stella introduced her brother to her friend and fellow WAC, and John and Louise soon married.
After the war in 1946, my parents, along with Aunt Stella, settled in San Francisco and started their own business, Aladdin Radio Repair. They originally ran the business out of a rented storefront on Seventh Avenue in the city, but in 1951 they moved to a building they had purchased at 17th and Irving, about 10 blocks west of the original store.
