Fast-Free Cholesterol Testing Your morning muffin or lunchtime sandwich may not affect your cholesterol test results much after all. Canadian scientists analyzed blood cholesterol levels of more than 200,000 people who had eaten anywhere from an hour to more than 16 hours before testing. They found the average readings for total and HDL (“good”) cholesterol varied by less than 2 percent, regardless of how recently people had eaten.
