THE decision of DB Cargo to eliminate its Class 60 fleet (see Headline News) is, perhaps, not surprising in view of the downturn in traffic, with the operator already in discussion with unions regarding a reduction in its workforce (RE331). The ‘Tug’ fleet had been dwindling in the last year, repairs not being sanctioned as individual machines became due for repairs.
The last four operational machines on the company’s books, Nos. 60024/040/062/074, will bow out by the year end to await their fate, with DB either offloading them to other operators or selling them for scrap.
