Valori Wells grew up steeped in quilting culture: her mother, Jean Wells, founded the famed Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show (SOQS) in 1975, as well as Stitchin’ Post, the shop they now co-own in Sisters, Oregon. Yet Valori didn’t assume she would go into the family business. It wasn’t until after earning an arts degree that she began to appreciate all the possibilities of fabric.
“I remember standing in [mom’s] sewing room going, oh my god, you guys have the best palette ever as a quilter!” she recalls. “You have textures, you have solids, you have prints... it does everything. I kind of got fascinated with fabric in a different way than I had before.”
