To be perfectly honest, I fluctuate from feeling calm to being in tears. I worry about my kids, family, and friends. I limit the time I spend watching TV because it causes more worry and fear. The following is based on a true story. The quilt in question has been omitted to protect the innocent. Ten years ago, a friend of mine was working on an ambitious quilt—an enormous king-sized one with intricate piecing—and I greatly enjoyed watching the quilt come together in an impressive feat of piecing endurance. I’m not sure I would have been able to piece that quilt myself, though I love the look of the block she chose. About our Patterns We recommend that you read all of the instructions before starting a project and that you cut and sew one block before cutting all of your fabric. Using a rotary cutter, mat and an acrylic ruler, cut the shape to the size indicated in the cutting list. Pressing tabs indicate the direction to press the seam allowances. Happy Hearts I loved the pattern Happy Hearts from Quiltmaker January/ February ’20! The colors in the fabric of this fun quilt were so bright and striking! I chose to make my quilt scrappy and the Stitch-and-Flip technique was fun to do! I used a purple binding and a pink backing fabric. I was able to get it done just in time for Valentine’s Day! Fire-Cracker I love the bold impact of a patriotic quilt in red, white and blue. “Flag Season” around my house runs from Armed Services Day in May, followed closely by Memorial Day, then Flag Day in June, Independence Day in July—all the way through Labor Day in September. Fire-Cracker is a simple block consisting of Flying Geese and half-square triangle units. I had great fun pulling strips from my Scrap User’s System to make this block—I love plotting and planning how each fabric is going to play off of its neighbor. I was able to make the entire block using only 2½" strips thanks to the use of my Essential Triangle Tool for cutting quarter-square and Half-square triangles from strips rather than squares.
