How do you make a house a home? With quilts of course! As you flip through this issue, you might notice we have several house quilts. I have always been a sucker for house quilts. I just love them! And the more detail the better. First up is Home Again by Bea Lee made with fabrics that hint of the 1930’s. Next, fast forward to the modern skyline Metropolis by Ramona Sorensen. A great border design motif that will frame out the curves of floral fabrics is one that is highly structured and reminiscent of a lovely garden trellis. There are a variety of straight line designs from simple to complex that are easy to accomplish using rulers designed for machine quilting. I started collecting Sunbonnet Sue blocks to make a sampler. These blocks are vintage and probably made in the early 40's. Imperfections abound! I have no idea as to who made the blocks or where they came from. The blocks are set with vintage fabric, including some feedsack. The pieces on the border are vintage and are from a dear deceased friend, Edwina Davis. She had already made the circles and the “flowers” are pieces she had cut for more.
