1. Identify desired motif. Using template plastic cut to desired unfinished size or a fussy-cutting window, center motif within patch shape. 2. Either draw around your template plastic and cut, or cut using a template. 3. Double check to ensure fussy-cut shape has at least ¼" seam allowance all around motif. 4. My father was in the Air Force and was awarded a QOV last year and it was very meaningful to him. That inspired me to explore designs that honor those who have served. Woven Colors represents how our stories are all woven together. I have learned that decorating for Christmas during Thanksgiving weekend has merits; if I postpone decorating until December, this joyful task is unfortunately often sidelined by preparing and attending social gatherings, holiday baking, and last-minute gift making.  As for gifts, perhaps the ladies on your gift list would enjoy receiving a quilted table runner, topper, placemat set, purses or tote bags, or other small gifts—like stockings filled with baking needs or a zippered pouch. Outside in the fall, I love hearing the geese honking overhead. Often, they seem to be going in the wrong direction, like these young geese! finished size: 64" × 76" finished blocks: 6 (12" × 20") & 3 (12" × 28") BLOCKS I have always enjoyed watching birds fly in a V formation. This quilt captures some of that movement. It uses five different-sized Flying Geese, representing geese of all sizes making that yearly migration. It also indicates the directions from which they come: north, south, and sometimes a little to the east or west. It’s a gaggle of geese making their rounds, or “Gaggling Around”—as I call this quilt. I chose to stagger some of the Flying Geese as it helps create movement in the quilt, similar to the movement of the birds as they fly in the sky. The design also reminds me of a Western theme. Using squares that are 1"–1⅛" larger than desired finished size of triangle-square, align 45º line of ruler along diagonal seam of triangle-square, allowing top and right edges to extend slightly past the edges of ruler. 2. 1. To make a band, pair two strips with right sides facing and raw edges aligned. Stitch with ¼" seam. Press flat to set stitches. 2. Fold top strip back and gently press seam open to one side. Band should be straight, without any distortion along outside edges. 3. Add third strip to complete band and press as described in previous steps. 4. Measure height of band to ensure it matches the required measurements. Aligning horizontal lines on ruler with long edge and seam lines of strip set, trim uneven end of strip set. 5. I simplified the blocks so that the fabric is the focus of the quilt. The leaves are made using the stitch-and-flip corners technique and basic Triangle-Square units. Ramona Plan Ramona used 6 assorted fall-colored solids in her quilt. If you want to do the same, you’ll need about ⅞ to 1 yard of each. Use a variety of color combinations to make the leaf units—and set your fall quilt ablaze! Use an accurate ¼" seam allowance throughout to ensure all elements of the quilt fit together well. Be sure fabric for section 1 is under that area and edges of fabric extend at least ¼" past stitching line. 2. Using 90/14-sized needle and a short stitch length so papers will tear off easily, stitch on line between two areas, extending stitching into seam allowances at ends of seams. 3.
