My 4-year-old grandson and 2-year-old granddaughter like to ‘help’ Nana work. After their rest time, we sat down with Nana’s EQ on my computer, and they helped pick blocks and colors and where to put them. After about 20 minutes, they were done, but I took what they did and made this pretty runner with their inspiration. We had a lot of fun, and they thought it was so cool to help Nana make her quilt. The term nesting seams simply means aligning the seams of each row so that they not only line up nicely but seem to almost fit together perfectly like a puzzle piece. This is done through a combination of pressing, pinning, and stitching. The example here shows which direction seams are pressed, patch by patch, row by row in a Nine -Patch quilt block. Note the arrows that show you which way to press your seams. 1. In row 1 of your block, the seams are pressed toward the center patch as shown. 2. I started by drawing a block made from 2½" squares and then added long strips between them to reduce my need for perfect corners. I played with color layout until a robot emerged.
