Is there anything more wonderful on a winter’s day than seeing the sun shine down through a bright blue sky? I’ve spent much of these last few weeks curled up under a blanket, cosy and warm, but this morning, I just can’t wait to get outside to enjoy this crisp, clear day. That’s often how I feel as we enjoy these first few weeks of the new year: after the wonderful sweetness of Christmas, with all the comforting old festive movies, the decadent mince pies and chocolate, the sentimental presents and the get-togethers, there is something beautifully palate-cleansing about the New Year, like a tall, sharp, refreshing glass of water on a hot day.
