Lemken surprised Agritechnica show goers with its first proper direct drill, the Solitair NT which has been tested in the UK this year. The NT project has been on the go for over three years and is a Lemken machine that uses some of the Equalizer team know-how – Lemken bought the South African, Equalizer direct drill manufacturer in 2023. For now, there is just a 6.0m drill, but there are definite plans to make wider versions with the possibility of smaller drills after that. With a tub capacity of 64m3, the Biga Mega Mammoet trailed mixer wagon from Dutch manufacturer Peecon feeds 400 cows at a time and is aimed at European farms with around 2,000 cows at multiple locations. The three-stage powershift softens the start-up load, but a tractor with at least 300hp is needed to power the four vertical augers. The 25t+ of mixed material exits through up to four hydraulically operated discharge doors. With three-steered axles and full road approval, the four-axled wagon, which weighs 27t, costs around €200,000. The company has delivered a number of units this year. The show machine is sold to a Belgian dairy farm. Another one of the 12m-long wagons has gone to Denmark, a few units are running in Poland and Ukraine.…

Bigger foragers need bigger tools, and Kemper, Claas and Krone all showed 16-row 12m-wide maize headers. The Krone unit is on a special one-off full black version of the Big X 1180, signed by Bernard Krone. The German company confirms that the 14-row XCollect will be out next year and on sale from 2027, but we are unlikely to see the 16-row version until the next generation of wide-bodied Big X is released. They will not say when this could be. The biggest challenge is figuring out the folding and getting this down to 3.0m while ensuring good visibility out through the front of the forage harvester when the header is folded. Agritechnica provided the first opportunity in Europe to see John Deere’s E-Power 130hp electric tractor prototype, the development goal being to give it the look and feel and match the performance of a 130hp (100kW) diesel. With configurable options for cab type, axles, tyres, and up to five Kreisel 39kWh batteries, 87kW of power is available at the pto and 82kW for the electric drivetrain. Able to conduct several hours of light work, such as tedding, spraying or raking, swapping batteries is said to be quick and easy, and the company is exploring various charging solutions. Compatible with existing implements, the E Power tractor has the capability to provide off-board electricity, but this has not yet been done on the prototype. New Holland’s TH Hybrid Power concept is based on a TH7.40, but then with the diesel engine swapped for a fully electric drivetrain. The hybrid concept disconnects the drivetrain from the hydraulics with the 70kWh battery providing 154hp (115kW) for the driveline and 112hp (84kW) for the hydraulics. The battery provides electrical power in both hybrid and full electric modes. Energy savings of up to 70% are claimed compared to the diesel handler, and 30% better performance during typical material handling operations. The trump card is the connection of the battery to a four-cylinder FPT methane gas engine. This range extender is said to overcome the run-time limitations of battery-only machines in that the gas engine recharges the battery and provides supplementary power when needed. Massey Ferguson’s five-model range of 5S tractors is now available with the new option of a CVT. Complementing the existing Dyna-4 and Dyna-6 versions, the Dyna-VT transmission in the 5S allows stepless speed adjustment from 0.1 to 40km/hr. Speed control is by the foot accelerator pedal, the hand throttle lever or the Power Control lever, and the maximum speed is reached at 1,550rpm. Dyna-VT models also come with new front and rear axles, a new hydraulic system, and a new rear linkage and hitch. A three-speed PTO with 540, 540 Eco or 1,000rpm output is standard. The 165hp 5165 on the Basak stand is the largest 5000 series tractor so far from the Turkish manufacturer. The refreshed exterior styling is not the only change because the 5165 is the first six-cylinder model in the range. Sitting above the 3.5-litre four-cylinder Deutz powered 5115 (119hp) and 5120 (122hp), the 6.1-litre Stage V Deutz engine in the 5165 is mated to the standard 30f x 15r electro-hydraulic power shuttle (54f x 27r creeper box also available). Kioti has ambitions to grow its market share from 2.5% in Europe to 6.0% by 2030. To help achieve this goal it unveiled a range of new machines at Agritechnica, including its first skidsteer. But the headline act on the stand was the HXS1403 which was being previewed with an autonomous package. The HSX is a higher spec version of he HX, adding load-sensing hydraulics with 500kg more lift capacity. Cab suspension is also part of the upgrade but front axle suspension is not yet available. The HSX will use the same 3.8-litre, four-cylinder engine as the HX and four range, eight powershift transmission with a top speed of 40km/hr. Alamo will be introducing the Mantis self-propelled hedge cutter in Europe in 2026. Made in Texas, it has not been confirmed which Alamo business (it owns Bomford, McConnel and Spearhead to name but a few) will handle sales in our market. The machine on show is the second generation of Mantis which is looking to take on the Italian made Energreen and will be similar in price we are told. With approaching 70 tractors on offer at the latest Euro Auctions sale in late October, there was certainly a lot to keep the prospective bidders interested. The selection on offer encompassed those that were only a few of years old and ready for work, to those from an earlier age that were probably in need of preservation. The condition of the machines varied too, with some requiring a lot of work, or to be used for spare parts. As it turned out, the most expensive piece of equipment in this part of the auction was a 2023 Chafer Interceptor self-propelled sprayer that was in excellent condition overall, sold for £57,500. More than fifty apprentices have graduated from John Deere’s renowned Ag Tech, Turf Tech, and Parts Tech programmes, joining dealerships across the UK and Ireland as qualified technicians and parts specialists. Opico has added Simtech direct drills to the portfolio, a line-up that includes the TSG240 and TSG300 grass drills and TS300 arable direct drill. The more sophisticated air drill range starts at 3m and runs through to the range topping 6m TS6004A with front tank and rear coulter frame. Grain only or grain and fertiliser split hoppers are available and additional metering units can be fitted for establishing several crops in one pass. The looks of the 104 GT, the latest development in the Xaver autonomous concept, were inspired by the Fendt GT tractor. A 25kW (48v) generator bolted to the 45hp diesel engine powers an electric motor for the hydraulic pump and others for the four steerable wheels. A 9.0kWh battery system provides a short-term power boost, and the vehicle can travel at a top field speed of 10km/hr. The 3.0t weight of the tool carrier excludes the implements, and lift capacity of each of the mid- and rear-linkages is 2.0t. The wheelbase is 3.4m and the fuel tank holds 200 litres. Indian manufacturer Shaktiman already offers a fixed chamber round baler, but the SRBV-160 is its first variable chamber model. Developed for the European market, bale diameter is from 50cm-1.60m and width is 1.20m. The 3.3t baler has electronic net binding and hydraulic density control and is available with a rotor or 14-knife chopper. Two different pick-up widths are available, and it is on 19.0/45-17 tyres. Shaktiman sees potential to grow its baler business. It already has a conventional square baler and is currently working on its first large square version. The Tadus T16.20, one of several fully electric tractors at Agritechnica, produces a maximum power of 160hp (120kW). The battery powers five electric motors – one each for the front and rear axles, two others for the front and rear ptos and one for the hydraulics. There is no external power for electric implements. Hydraulic flow is 75l/min (100l/min option), rear lift capacity is 5.0t (front 3.0t), and the tractor’s empty weight of 7.5t can be boosted to a maximum of 10.8t. The patented TriForce II coulter arm suspension is the main novelty on the latest reincarnations of the Väderstad Spirit 400-900C/S and Inspire 1200C/S. Taking three years to develop and test, the patented rubber bar profile of the new triangular beam increases the coulter pressure to 120kg (previously 80kg). Väderstad says the new suspension arm provides unmatched seed coulter pressure stability, also at higher working speeds, resulting in a more consistent seed depth. Both drills are available with the new option of hydraulic depth setting of the seeding units from the cab. This is normally done manually at the rear of the machine. The Frontier from Dutch firm Eox Tractors is a fully electric tool carrier with advanced autonomous driving capabilities. The 150kWh lithium-ion battery pack supplies power to seven electric motors: four-wheel motors, one hydraulic motor, and the front and rear ptos. The electric drivetrain develops 129kW (175hp) at the wheels and 100kW (134hp) at the pto. There are five hydraulic connections (120l/min), the maximum travel speed is 10km/hr, and 4ws and crab steer are both standard. The axles are extendable from 2.25m to 3.20m. Agritechnica was the first outing for the Stage V version of the 150hp FM World WD1504X from Chinese tractor manufacturer Jiangsu Agricultural Machinery. The top four-cylinder model in the WD-X series, which also includes 115hp and 140hp models, the Chinese block is mated to a 32fx32r mechanical power shuttle. The unballasted weight of 5t for the range-topper can be increased to 6t. Rear lift capacity is 4t and the top speed is 30km/hr. FM World is seeking a UK distributor to sell all three tractors. JCB was previewing a new cab on the 526-60 and 530-60 which will go into production in Q2 next year. The overall dimensions are the same as the current design, the big change is in the instrument panel with many of the button-controlled functions now being operated by a new 7-inch touchscreen. Not only does this free-up space for additional storage, it gives greater control over functions such as the light and hydraulics which are accessed through a menu structure. Indian manufacturer International Tractors India (ITL) spoke about new 120hp, 130hp and 150hp Solis S-Series models at Agritechnica. Prototypes of all three tractors are running, but it will take another 18 months of tweaks and tests to compete the project. Until then, the details are off limits. The most powerful Stage V tractor currently available Europe is the 110hp S110. Longer term, Solis would like to add a 180hp tractor to the top end of the European range, but this is unlikely to happen for a few years. A tractor that did make it to Hannover is the latest version of the 90hp Solis S90. Alongside a new precision planter, Bednar was showing its entry to the power harrow drill market with 3.0m and 6.0m versions. Our focus here is on the 3.0m wide Soniq ON3000. Rated up to 250hp, the power harrow is sourced from an Italian firm that uses double bearings and a top cap for easier access than a full top lid. Quick release tines are on the options list and a collar around the rotor keeps stones away from the trough bottom and shaft. The disc coulters are said to be a scaled down version of the Omega, Bednar’s trailed drill range. With these, it weighs 3,520kg plus seed – there is a choice of 1,000- or 1,600-litre hoppers. There are four models in the new Zetor 6 Series: the 6130 (130hp), 6140 (141hp), 6160 (156hp) and 6170 (171hp). All use a four-cylinder Deutz 4.1-litre engine mated to a six-stage automatic ZF powershift. Inside the new Pininfarina designed suspended cab is a new air conditioning unit, air suspended and swivelling seat, touchscreen terminal and up to 12 LED work lights. Getting their time to shine at Agritechnica is the new generation of short-wheelbase Puma models. There are three models in the Case IH range, the 155, 165 and 185, that’s right the top model has been renamed to coincide with the extra power from the new engine software. There will be three transmission options with the stepless CVX Drive first out of the block in the new year. These will then be joined by the Active Drive 8 in mid-2026 and the already familiar AD 6 will come online by year end. The power curve of the 6.7-litre has been reworked so it reaches max power at a lower revving 1,500rpm. On the MX stand was the new T400 Evo loader. As well as having the option of the dark grey colour-scheme from the U500, these hydraulic self-levelling booms also benefit from new features. Chief among these is the Easy Plug pressure release system for the auxiliary valves. This will be standard on T400 Evo loaders. The booms are also pre-wired for new electric functionality which will be rolled out next year. This will include on-board weighing and auto features. German toolmaker Sonic supplies fully kitted out toolboxes to several well-known automotive and agricultural manufacturers. For instance, the Fendt, Massey and Valtra branded boxes. Maurice Wilke says that they work with each brand so the kits contain the ideal selection of hand tools for working on that machine, such as two sets of spanners and sockets up to size 46, with the bigger box costing €6,900. But what caught our eye was the converted toolbox which had a beer tap on top. This conversion is carried out by Bavarian firm Lehnert Tools (who specialise in diagnostic equipment) and it has sold over 100 of them this year including a number supplied to Fendt. The preservation rally season came to a close at the just excellent Newark Vintage Tractor & Heritage Show over 8-9 November with an excellent footfall right across the Newark Showground with the best weather ever recorded for this show. The event will surely be remembered for the 100+ Caterpillars on site thanks to Tom Balls and his Antique Caterpillar Chapter Two members team. They really brought the Caterpillar centennial to a fitting climax here in the UK. In the George Stephenson Building where the Kelsey Media stand was placed we enjoyed the 80 years of Field Marshall Series 1. Possibly the oldest continuous ownership here went to John Stephenson from East Yorkshire who in 1959 at the age of 11 purchased his Series 1 tractor which was up for sale…

Crowds are flocking to see a special 80th birthday installation at JCB’s lakeside HQ in Staffordshire – a full-sized digger presented as if it were a scale model. Visitors young and old have been marvelling at the ingenious display which has an eight-tonne JCB 3CX Sitemaster backhoe loader packaged in the style of the iconic 1:32 scale models loved by collectors worldwide. The special ‘Backhoe in a Box’ has been unveiled as part of JCB’s 80th anniversary celebrations and will be on display beside the JCB lake at Rocester until January. Vogelsang has announced it will launch a new UniSpread model at LAMMA in January, alongside a new super-scale separator. The new 12-metre UniSpread will join the existing range to offer an additional one fifth working width. The new XSplit XS30-80 separator offers a throughput capacity of 175 cubic metres per hour. “The new UniSpread is aimed at farmers and contractors who need a compact solution for spreading liquid manure close to roots. Agrii, one of the UK’s leading agricultural distributors, has taken delivery of its first all-electric heavy goods vehicle, the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 LS ProCabin Stream 4x2, marking a major step in the company’s move towards lower-emission logistics. Supplied by Midlands Truck & Van, the new eActros 600 – which combines zero-emissions operation with class-leading long-distance performance – is one of the first of its kind to enter service in the UK. SIP show the new Spider HD1700-16T trailed tedder for the first time at Agritechnica. The 16 rotors (1.45m diameter) cover a working width of 17.2m. Each unit has lateral movement that can amount to a 2.0m change in height across the spreading width. The running gear of the show machine was on 500/45 R22.5 and there is also a choice of a drawbar or linkage coupling, the latter allowing tighter turns. Chinese tractor manufacturer Shandong Hanwo showed the latest versions of the HWC Series from 128-158hp, which all have a new suspended cab. The four Yuchai Stage III powered tractors re the 1304 (128hp), 1404 (138hp), 1504 (148hp) and 1604 (158hp). The gearbox in all four is a 16fx8r mechanical power shuttle. The Chinese manufacturer plans to plant a Stage V block in the range and put it through the EU homologation process next year. Chinese firm ZSHX Advanced Tractors showed the Xeevo E904i, the first of a new range of electric tractors. The 4.0t tractor produces a rated output of 90hp (66.1kW). A 30-second power boost increases this to a maximum of 122hp (89.5kW). It depends on the job, but the 103kWh battery is said to last for 4-8 hours. Recharging with the fast 120kWh DC charger takes an hour. “This can be done at lunchtime,” explains ZSHX founder and CEO Yongjun Chen of the Beijing-based company. Garry Daly from Irish importer Farmec says that there its customers have been asking about a lower cost rear butterfly to help increase output but at a more modest price point. Chinese tractor manufacturer Shandong Shuangli was in Europe for the first time, keen to sign up dealers for its Shonly branded tractors. In China, the company has manufactured tractors for 30 years and reckons to make around 10,000 units a year (24hp to 260hp), where it enjoys a top 10 ranking. Keen to expand overseas and sell its tractors in Europe, power to the 75hp flagship in the M4 range on the stand comes from a 2.9-litre, three-cylinder Stage V Chinese engine mated to a 12-speed mechanical transmission. Hydraulic flow is 40l/min, there are two PTO speeds (540/1,000rpm) and the tractor weighs around 3.5t. The 75hp model carries a 20% to 30% lower price tag than a comparable western brand. The 75hp Avenger 75 XT is the most powerful Stage V tractor so far from Indian manufacturer Preet. Receiving its first airing at the German show, the four-cylinder Simpson engine is mated to a Carraro synchro mesh 12fx12r transmission which reaches a top speed of 34km/hr. There is a new sense of direction at Versatile, and that direction is leading to Europe. In December 2023, Versatile was purchased by ASKO Holding, a multi-pronged Turkish business which already owns Basak and in construction equipment circles MST to name but two. A fully restored 1963 Fordson Super Dexta tractor sold for an impressive £40,280 at the Cheffins Cambridge Vintage Sale on Saturday 18 October, with all proceeds donated to the new Cambridge Children’s Hospital. This is part of Cheffins’ 200-year anniversary celebrations, where the firm pledged to match the price the tractor made at the auction, bringing the total donation to £80,560.
