Load the tool with positive Exposure, Clarity and Saturation, then paint around the iris (excluding the pupil). Irises can benefit from darkened edges. Press N for a new adjustment; load the brush with negative Exposure and paint a ring around the edges. 02 FIX THE WHITES The whites often benefit from gentle lightening. Load the Adjustment Brush with positive Exposure and Highlights, then paint over the whites. For our background image, we used a free London skyline from pixabay.com. Drag in your background image with the Move tool, then drag the background scene to the bottom of the layer stack. Next, grab the Background Eraser tool. Set Sampling to Continuous and Tolerance to 50 in the options. 02 REMOVE THE WINDOWS Zoom in and paint over the windows to reveal the background scene below. You might need to experiment with the Tolerance settings to change how the tool targets colors. Photoshop has many types of layers and adjustment layers available, but there are six that you’ll find you need to use again and again. Learning how they should be used may seem a little daunting for beginners, but once you’ve got to grips with them, you’ll find they play a part in the creative process of almost every image you make. 01 LEVELS This should be the first layer you add to an image, because it fundamentally alters the tonal range of the entire image.
