Naicker’s research looked at how secondary school learners’ disruptive behaviour led to confrontational encounters with their teachers. Naicker, 58, from Woodlands, said the research aimed to understand the behaviour of troubled pupils. She said she conducted her research by interviewing 16 learners, who presented repeated disciplinary problems and were referred to the school management for intervention. Vimal Rajbansi, along with North West businessman Gideon Pretorius, was charged with fraud relating to a 2010 business deal involving the sale of office equipment. Their co-accused, Younus Patel, a Durban North businessman, died earlier this year. According to the state, Brainwave Projects represented by Rajbansi secured finance for their client Ditona Construction in November 2010 with Merchant West, a company that provides asset finance. Pretorius served as the director of Ditona while Rajbansi was an agent for Brainwave Projects. Last week, he received an SMS from the police that the case against the suspect linked to the killing was withdrawn due to a lack of evidence. In 2019, his uncle, David Govender, 88, was killed during a robbery at his 11-bedroomed home in Reservoir Hills. Govender’s decomposed body was found in a drum in the basement of his home. He was gagged with a towel, his hands and feet were bound with rope, and planks were placed on the drum. Govender, who never married, was a retired builder. Magistrate John Maloba made the decision last Tuesday in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court. The inquest aimed to determine if Deedat was involved in the fire that resulted in the deaths. On July 12, 2011, a fire broke out at the Deedat household in Ormonde, south of Johannesburg.
