However, on Monday, Angie Motshekga, the Minister of Basic Education, said she was pleased with the national pass rate of 76.2%. Along with being one of the school’s top achievers, Ahmad, 18, placed second in the Umgungundlovu District. Ahmad, of Mountain Rise, had 7 distinctions – in maths, English, Afrikaans, life sciences, geography, physics and life orientation. Inspired by Elon Musk, the CEO and founder of SpaceX as well as the product architect of electric car company Tesla, Ahmad said he hoped to start his own engineering company one day.
