Girlfriend appears in court over fatal stabbing CHARLENE SOMDUTH Facebook AS FAMILY members of Yogan Moodley performed his last rites on Tuesday, his girlfriend, Alisha Balgobind, appeared in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court charged with his murder. On Saturday night, Moodley, 30, was stabbed with a kitchen knife on his left arm, the left side of his ribcage, his groin and buttocks at their rented outbuilding in Cardinal Road, Phoenix. He was taken to Life Mount Edgecombe Hospital for treatment but died on Sunday morning. Balgobind, 27, who is unemployed, was arrested on Sunday by Detective Warrant Officer Clement Chetty from Phoenix SAPS. They were married for 30 years and loved being together. Last Thursday, Poobalen watched helplessly as his wife bled to death in her wheelchair, after being stabbed during a home robbery. Sukdey, 85, whose leg had been amputated two years ago, had been stabbed in the head, neck and body. She died at the scene. Navin Chanderlal, 54, who is unemployed, is accused of the murder of retired nurse and community activist Vathaniagee “Jennifer” Pillay, 65, on December 24, 2018. The awaiting-trial prisoner is the eldest grandchild of Amichand Rajbansi, who started the Minority Front. Rajbansi, 30, was taken to King Edward VIII Hospital after he suffered seizures at Westville Prison. His family were allegedly notified last Monday, two weeks after his admission. At the time, Rajbansi was unable to speak or eat by himself and was dependent on oxygen. Last Tuesday, when the family tried to move him to a private facility, the authorities at Westville Prison demanded payment of just more than R145 000 for a private guard to be stationed outside his room. Men appear in court over tender bribe POST REPORTER A DURBAN chief executive and a stock clerk, who allegedly tried to bribe a Johannesburg chicken farm employee in a bid to win a contract, were released on bail last week. Suman Panday, 42, the chief executive of Blakey Plastics in Durban, and his co-accused Madikana Gerald Mapokgola, 31, of Daybreak Farm in Centurion, were arrested two weeks ago. They were arrested at an upmarket restaurant at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park during a covert operation by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit in Pretoria. British man’s grisly death JANINE MOODLEY A GAUTENG woman has been charged with killing Jamnadas Harkant Nathvani, a British national, whose body was burnt beyond recognition. Zaheera Boomgaard was arrested on October 9, and she appeared in the Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court on October 12. She was remanded in custody following a formal bail application. It is alleged that Nathvani, 71, had arrived in Gauteng earlier this year and he was last seen on February 22 when he took a bus from Park Station in Johannesburg to Newcastle in KwaZulu-Natal.
