Challenges to call to prayer
I HAVE read with interest the responses to Professor Anand Singh’s letter “An outdated tradition in a multi-religious society” (the POST, September 9-13).
For the record, Prof Singh did not suggest doing away with the Azaan. His suggestion was for Muslims to use alternative means to inform their brethren in the call to prayer.
If other countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the US and Europe are already putting to good use their cellphones, radios at home and in their motor vehicles, why can this not be emulated in South Africa too?
