Watching parents pick their children up from school, I felt a little different to the other kids.
They seemed to have such a deep connection with their parents, and I wasn’t sure I felt the same.
Don’t get me wrong, I was supported, loved, fed, and brought up well. I just never had the genuine connection you get with ‘mum and dad’.
And despite having four siblings, Bethany, now 35, Terry, now 38, Christian, now 40, and Tyler, now 28, I always felt like something was missing.
And it turns out, there was a reason.
I remember being five years old when my mum Nancy, 67, and Dad Jan, sat me down.
‘We’re not your real parents,’ they told me very gently. ‘Your parents passed away in a murder suicide.’…
