But one night, in July 2013, around 10pm, we got home to find Arnie on the sofa, trembling.
I saw dried blood on his chest, with a tiny wound on his left side.
‘He’s hurt!’ I gasped.
At the emergency vets, an X-ray showed traces of lead. They said a bullet must’ve gone through him!
Our home backs on to farmland, but I’ve no idea why anyone would shoot late at night.
Thankfully, vets flushed out most of the lead residue and, £2,000 of our savings later, Arnie…
