For taxpayers, last year was one of much talk but little action. President Joe Biden’s Build Back Better Act proposed an array of tax increases, particularly on individuals earning $400,000 and above, in order to pay for a variety of social and environmental programs in the bill. In the end, the complete plan stalled in Congress, as did many of the proposed tax subsidies to pay for it. In 1996, a Japanese scientist, Dr. Izumi Tabata, studied two groups of speed-skating athletes. The first group trained at a moderate-intensity level for an hour five days a week for six weeks. The second group trained at a high-intensity level (also for five days a week for six weeks) for 4 minutes with 20-second sets and 10 seconds of rest between each set. The results showed that Group Two experienced a greater increase in their aerobic and anaerobic systems than Group One did. Leveraging those findings, Tabata training was born.
