When I first became vegan almost 10 years ago, I would announce my plant-based lifestyle in a restaurant, and people would look at me like I had three heads. And, as a type of gardening replete with opportunities for mindfulness, tending to bonsai may be effective at helping with depression and anxiety through increased emotional regulation and decreased neural activity in the area of the brain that controls rumination, the phenomenon of getting stuck thinking the same negative thoughts over and over again.
