THE AUSTRALIAN Trucking Association’s (ATA) National Trucking Industry Awards took place at this year’s Trucking Australia conference in Darwin, with Danial McFee, from Gilbert’s Transport Services in South Australia, taking out the award for National Professional Driver of the Year.
McFee, who has worked with Gilbert’s for 31 years, started out in local abattoir-related work around the Adelaide Hills and before driving double road trains to Perth. In 1996 he began driving triple road trrains from Adelaide to Darwin and Tennant Creek.
Tracie Dickenson of Daryl Dickenson Transport, based at Archerfield, Queensland, won the Trucking Industry Woman of the Year award. The daughter of a long-haul owner-driver, in 1990 she met Daryl Dickenson, an interstate driver, and started travelling with him full-time.
