Thomas Hoepker, the Magnum photographer who shot it, chose not to publish it in a book about that September morning as it was deemed too ‘callous’ in the immediate wake of the event. BY ITS LOOK, Motinagar in Lucknow is a typical urban area of an Indian city: a haphazard arrangement of shops, houses, lanes and bylanes.
