The Warrior Grind has earned its reputation as one of the toughest precision rifle matches in South Africa, a true test of endurance, skill, and mindset. This year’s event stood out for one unique reason in that suppressors were mandatory. For most PRS shooters, that is unfamiliar territory. We typically run muzzle brakes to minimise recoil and help spot impacts for faster corrections. Competitors completed eight stages on Saturday 25 October. The main match began at 08:00 and finished by 16:30. The heat of the week had dissipated, making for a lovely cool and breezy weekend, and hence ideal shooting conditions. The match began a little later on Sunday at 09:00 and was completed by 14:15. The ranges were well set out and built with a dedicated maintenance crew on hand to resolve any equipment failure and breakages. Warren Britnell shares insight into the initiative behind hosting a silencer mandatory PRS match. The motivation for making this a silencer mandatory event was to improve the overall shooting experience. Traditional muzzle brakes often create significant blast concussion, not only for the shooter, but also for fellow competitors, Range Officers (ROs), and Match Directors (MDs). Over the course of a long day, and especially after a two-day centrefire match, this repeated blast can lead to fatigue and headaches. The concept is straightforward. Gather a number of ELR shooters from each region and have a go to determine the best team. Team captains Charl Gous and JD Els settled on 12 members per team as determined by their participation in Send IT, ELR Shooting and Sweetspot Reloading matches and their individual standings on the respective ranking tables. In 2025, the Send IT team hosted the northern team in the Western Cape at the meticulously prepared and dedicated ELR range at Matroosbergstasie Shooting Range.
