We extend a warm welcome to the SA Precision Rifle Federation (SAPRF) team who made South Africa proud at the 2024 IPRF World Championship in Colorado, USA. Our 21-strong team has been invited to share their experiences of competing internationally, many of them for the first time. The Port Elizabeth Rifle and Pistol Club (PERPC) hosted an Open Day from 10:00 to 16:00 on Saturday 31 August. Originally scheduled to be held on 8 June, severe storms in and around Gqeberha damaged the handgun ranges and the road leading to the shooting range. The organisers had to wait for maintenance work to be completed on the handgun ranges to make them usable, safe, and accessible. Members of the public would enjoy free access to the PERPC ranges with a coffee truck, food truck and halaal vendor. The aim of the Open Day was to give the public the experience of shooting various firearms in a safe and managed environment. Heeltevrede 2-Mile challenge held on the weekend of 14th September was yet again another great fun 2-Mile challenge and made for a great shooting weekend. ■ 1501 m Black Jack, 2 shooters with best score: 4 out of 8 hits. ■ Gong sizes between 2 moa and 0.5moa. ■ 7 x 2-mile hits on competition day. ■ 7 out of 54 shots with 20 mph winds. Our winner, Neehan Uys (.375c), 2nd Louise Classen (300 NMI), 3rd Lizette (.338LM) all three made hits on out to 2 miles. 1 unlucky shooter had to shoot holdover on 12 MRAD on 2915 m made hits and holding over 20 MRAD on 3253 m and shooting all around the 2-Mile gong. Saturday morning, however, saw a steady rain. The forecast had changed overnight for the worse. Still showing remarkable resolve, just over 40 shooters arrived eager to shoot, and a little less eager to get soaked in what was fast becoming a torrential downpour. It simply does not have the ballistics to compete in Extreme Long Range (ELR). The round is old and antiquated; it has been in military service for over 100 years. It is nothing more than a machine gun round, etc. I could go on, but I think you see where I am going with this. The 50 BMG has more than its fair share of detractors.
