Along-debated subject within the A shooting community is the difference between competition focused and tactical or ‘combat’ shooting. It has almost been a situation of “East is East and West is West and never the twain shall meet”, where one side is diametrically opposed and no middle ground could be found. Possibly the louder of the two voices has been tactical shooters who often insist that the gamer mentality of competitive shooters would get them killed in a real combat situation. However, the shooting skills of top competitive shooters are undeniable and really cannot be argued with. The Port Elizabeth Rifle & Pistol Club (PERPC) hosted its PE200 match on 23 March. A Level 1 match open to all members, it is a normal IPSC type match with regard to safety and range commands. However, it consists of only five stages, with 40 rounds per stage. No steel, no penalty targets, and no IPSC mini targets. Only open full size IPSC targets may be used and must be no more than 7 m from a competitor’s shooting position. All competitors compete in one division and are scored as major.
