Yet, given all the above, the North West does not have a premium long-range event like the Natal Gong Series, the ALMA hosted event in Limpopo, or the regular long-range events in the Cape. This resulted in the first proper long-range event being planned for the North West.
The venue was a private cattle farm called Gerhardminnebron, owned by Willem Kooij, on the outskirts of Potchefstroom. The landscapes on the farm are ideal for long-range shooting, with high koppies, hills and valleys with a good number of cross winds from different directions, vertical updrafts and switchbacks. All of this is to the testament to the name ‘The Winds of the West’.
