A long-range gong shoot was held at Noodhulp Farm from 1 to 2 July. What a challenging two days! Shooting conditions on Day One were characterised by strong winds. On Saturday morning, the first relay could not commence until 11:00 due to the thick mist, and even then was interrupted by rain. The inclement weather persisted into the second relay, as well as the final. Everybody, however, handled it well and finished the shoot in good spirits. The competition was fierce. However, what was really heartening was that junior shooters Carlo Gous (12) and Liam Maree (15) made it to the final. What separated shooters in the final were small mistakes. Western Cape provincial PR22 competition The Western Cape Provincial PR22LR match was scheduled to take place on 29 May but, as the Cape of Storms lived up to its name on that day, we had to make a tough call and postpone the shoot for two weeks. There is no doubt that ladies just LOVE clay target shooting! They fall in love with their beautiful shotguns and develop a strong camaraderie with fellow lady clay busters. Jenna Brown, Clay Target Shooting Association of South Africa (CTSASA) lady member since 2018, has created a fabulous initiative by setting up and promoting a ladies’ sponsored shoot at two CTSASA events as described below. The CTSASA is fully supportive of this initiative and has sponsored the ladies’ jackets at the CTSASA Limpopo Standard Championships, with potentially more sponsorship on the way. The course of fire as designed was one of the most challenging but also the fairest of any shoot we have shot. It stacked up to any shoot abroad, with stable props, small targets (average size 0.5 Mil / 1.5 Moa), challenging par times, and tricky wind conditions, yet all fair and well balanced to challenge you on ALL aspects of marksmanship. Stages that stood out were shooting through concrete pipes at various heights, where stage planning and equipment setup were vital to deal with moving targets, requiring patience and precise trigger pulls. Range Officers gave good, clear instructions at every stage to allow shooters freedom to approach a stage in an innovative manner yet sticking to the original intent of the Match Director in designing the challenge at hand.…
