Vincenzo Lancia, born in 1881, worked for Fiat from 1900 before setting up his own works in Turin in 1906. From early days these technically advanced cars were sold in the UK, popular notable models through the years included the Lambda in the twenties, the Aprilia in the late thirties to the ‘rust prone’ Beta of the seventies, which tarnished their reputation, with the final Delta models offered before withdrawing from the UK market in 1994.
They built their first commercial model, the ‘IZ’ in 1911 with a batch of 100 supplied to the Italian army. These were powered by a 35hp, 4.5 litre s.v.
