Foods like beans, sprouts, cabbage and broccoli contain a chemical called raffinose. Our digestive system cannot digest this chemical, so it is left to the bacteria in our large intestine to break it down. This occurs slowly and, in the process, produce gases such as methane, hydrogen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide and sulphur. If your gas smells like rotten eggs, you are probably eating a lot of foods that are high in sulphur like garlic and onions!
