According to associate professor Anusch Yazdani, surrogacy is not an alternative to fertility treatment and is used in situations where people are either not able to or should not carry their own pregnancy. I watched them on the ferry: a grandma, grandad and a couple of young boys aged around 6 and 3. The youngest wanted to sit on one side of the boat, the eldest on the other and the grandad plonked himself down, clearly exhausted by his day as tour guide.
