An expertly curated, luxuriously produced compendium of all things Naples, Naples Illustrated brings to life personalities and takes you inside the exclusive homes, parties and interests of the world’s most affluent and influential people.
To be truthful, I’ve lost track. But, I think I’ve lived in 14 different homes. From a historic home constructed in 1873 in Midland, Michigan, to a Southern-style residence in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to the coastal contemporary I now inhabit here, each has been distinct and afforded unique and ample opportunities to conceptualize, design, and decorate. No matter where I lay my head, projects seem to find me. And I know I’m not alone. People relish their homes and love to make them hospitable, especially here in Naples. As we usher in fall and the home stretch of 2022, it’s a perfect time to turn our attentions toward our residences. In this Home & Garden issue of Naples Illustrated, we hope you find a healthy dose of inspiration for your humble…

SPOTLIGHT CHEERS TO 35 YEARS Kim Collins and Sherri DuPont are excited to come to work every day. Even after three and a half decades. Collins and DuPont cut their design teeth while working at the same firm. It didn’t take them long to discover they worked well together. Both have Midwestern roots: Collins is originally from North Dakota, and DuPont is originally from Indiana. They have lived and worked in Southwest Florida since 1978. Together they founded the Collins DuPont Design Group in 1987. Over the years, the design duo has worked on projects from Paris to Puerto Rico and Canada to the Cayman Islands. They have only missed “three, or maybe four states” in their years of designing homes, says Collins. They have also experienced the joy of…
Scientists hypothesize that the Burmese python (Python bivittatus) slithered into Florida sometime in the 1970s, most likely as a result of the then-burgeoning exotic pet trade. The unwelcome legless and carnivorous creature, known for rapid reproduction, quickly became a major menace to the bio region. Ian Bartoszek, wildlife biologist and environmental science project manager for the Conservancy of Southwest Florida, declares the invasive species “the wildlife impact issue of our time.” Although the Burmese python is a “beautiful and amazing creature,” he quickly emphasizes “they wreak havoc in the local environment by depleting the surrounding native wildlife.” Bartoszek points out that hatchling pythons were first spotted on a roadside in Collier County in 2009 by a scientist who was specifically looking for them. In 2013, the Conservancy established a python…
The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Florida Southwest has renamed its local scholarship program the Andrea Clark Brown AIA Florida Southwest Scholarship Program in honor of the late renowned local architect who designed such notable Naples landmarks as Sugden Community Theatre, the “Butterfly House,” and St. Agnes Catholic Church, to name just a few. The local scholarship program was established in 2018 to encourage students to pursue careers as registered architects. The commitment on the part of the architectural students is significant in terms of time, effort, and cost. With this in mind, AIA Florida Southwest created a program to help establish a continuous stream of local talent accepting the challenge. The organization hopes that after completing their formal education, the local students will return to Southwest Florida to enjoy…
