Welcome to the Happy issue of Mollie, which is filled with simple ideas to help you find happiness through craft. As you’ll read on page 74, all too often we search for happiness through the approval of others, but it’s not all about Instagram ‘likes’. We’re here to show you that the acts of simply making and doing; of mending and upcycling; of discovering new talents or long-forgotten ones, can be just the boost you need. How can we all benefit from making our own clothes? Sewing is self care and something you should enjoy as a creative outlet. This means, when you are starting out, you should throw away any expectations about how your first projects will turn out. Mistakes will be made, swear words may be said, but the feeling of accomplishment when you try on your completed project for the first time will make it all worth it. The summer holidays usually mean at least a few weekends spent camping in the great outdoors. We only started going camping after my daughter was born, but once I became interested in the idea, there was no stopping me from accessorising our camping kit! For our first trip, I made bunting out of scrap fabric and a colourful patchwork blanket made out of large squares of fabric, with a laminated cotton backing. I also took some cushions, crockery, fairy lights and blankets to make our tent look prettier, with just a few grumbles from my husband about the amount of stuff that had to be squeezed into the car. Take the sheet cane and carefully cut out enough material to cover each one, plus overlap (at least 2 pairs of verticals should cover each other when placed on the glass/jug).
