When the owners of this beach house in Cape Town’s Kommetjie first came to view it more than five years ago, they loved its spectacular beachfront location in a private nature reserve, but were less keen on the dark interiors and the home’s lack of connection to its surrounds. Originally built for a European executive who wanted the freedom of beachfront living and the security of Fort Knox, the house is highly automated, with all shutters, roller blinds, lights, heating and even cupboards (in some rooms) controlled automatically via remote. “Made from imported Burmese teak in a shiplap construction, the house is incredibly well-built and therefore resilient in this coastal climate,” says interior designer Bruce Fyfe, who, together with his business partner Kelsey Boyce, was tasked with reimagining the interiors.…
