THE automatic stop described below was, at first, paradoxical though it may sound, not intended to be one. It was merely desired as a remote control for the motor-switch to obviate leaning over the lathe when switching on or oil, a proceeding which may be dangerous to one's skin or clothing when a sharp corner of the work in hand is projecting beyond the chuck or faceplate. The reader will, at this juncture, remark, why not move the switch to a position of greater safety?
