I own a fair number of diecast Mini models and some of my favourites are the ice cream, crêpe and burger van vehicles by Oxford Diecast. Although these conversions on full-size Minis by Whitby Morrison have been carried out since 1963, it is very rare to see them now. So I was as happy as a kid in an ice cream parlour during our photoshoot of Emma Slocombe's Pick-up, which has been converted with a freezer full of ice cream. I take my work very seriously so I tried some of it and can confirm that it was delicious. Bognor Regis Motor Club will hold its 12th TAP (Classic Car Tour and Picnic) for all classic cars on 4 September, in aid of Kent Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance. It starts at Great Ballard School, Eartham, near Chichester, West Sussex, with breakfast rolls and collection of packs. Participants will then visit a private car collection, where they will eat their 'bring-your-own picnic', and then on to Watt’s Gallery and Artist’s Village at Compton for tea and cake. The final destination is The Tithe Barn at Old Ditcham Farm for a roast roll. If we look back to the pre-war years most cars tended to be finished in dark colours. After the war, and through the 1950s, lighter and brighter colours such as greys, light blues, reds and whites started to gain popularity. This continued up to the later 1960s and then, as the 70s were on the horizon, bright yellows and oranges arrived. Ford, in many ways, led the way here and other manufacturers followed. British Leyland launched ‘Bronze Yellow’ across several models in their range. Bronze Yellow, which was really orange, and the equivalent from other car manufacturers, suddenly became the colour to have. “I’m into Adidas and collect Adidas trainers. I’ve got around 40 pairs so the Mini has a bit of an Adidas theme to it,” explains Marc Drew. Driveshafts are among the components on a Mini that rarely get any attention until there is a problem. This is because all types of Mini driveshaft and CV joints are generally quite reliable and do not often cause problems until they have covered a very high mileage. The usual reason for maintenance and repair is when one or more of the rubber gaiters splits and this will nowadays mean an MOT failure in the UK. Regardless of whether the car has failed the MOT, split gaiters need immediate attention as the lubricant escapes and water and dirt will enter the joint, resulting in rapid failure of the joint, potentially dangerous breakage and a much bigger repair bill. It was fantastic to be back at Pentewan Holiday Park, near St Austell, Cornwall, for the 25th Riviera Run. Cornish Mini Club was champing at the bit to put on a brilliant weekend for Mini owners despite the disappointment of the 2020 and 2021 postponements. On Friday 29 April Minis gathered at Leigh Delamere services on the M4 and headed to Pentewan with a few stops along the way to gather more Riv Runners. It was then time to check into static caravans and put up tents before karaoke in the Seahorse that evening. Saturday morning dawned brightly as Minis started to fill the show area adjacent to Pentewan Sands’ beautiful beach. The postponed 2021 International Mini Meeting in Italy will now be based at Hu Norcenni Girasole Village in Tuscany, 25-29 May 2023. The new location is 20 minutes from the beautiful city of Florence. A spokesperson for organiser, Mini Owners Club, said: “We are hosting the event in this campsite, which is actually more like a city as it hosts thousands of people.” The new site has restaurants, three bars, supermarkets, pharmacies, rotisserie, ice cream parlour, a central market area and two water parks with lagoons and a heated swimming pool." According to the Heritage certificate generated by this Mini Cooper S’s original registration number, it was built on 26 March 1966. It was sent to Stewart and Ardern Ltd., of London, on 13 June and was then registered in Surrey. It changed hands in 1969 and, mysteriously, it went to America in 1971 but its low mileage suggests it may not have seen any road use before being shipped back to England in 2018. I bought a 998cc Mini a few years back and have driven it sporadically since then while I was saving up to improve the performance. It drives quite well but it is slow and the brakes also need improving. What is the best way to go about starting to tune the engine? Is it better to start with Stage 1 and move through the stages or try and go for Stage 3 straight away? I will be carrying out most of the work myself. The 8 May Himley Hall event celebrated the 30th year anniversary of the British Mini Day, hosted by the British Mini Club. Located near Dudley, West Midlands, the beautiful grounds between the 18th Century stately home and the picturesque lake was the stage for the prestigious event. Regarded by many as the opener to the summer show season, it welcomed all types of Minis and variants from 1959 to present day. The cold morning started with grey skies and light rain. This didn’t put a dampener on the event as the long queue of Minis kept coming through the gates.
