The Battle of Haifa Street took place in a two-mile-long street in downtown Baghdad, Iraq between US (23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Black Jack Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division) and Iraqi Army forces against various Sunni insurgent forces as a precursor for clearing operations (“the surge”) which neutralized insurgent groups in this part of Baghdad. Around 500 Iraqi and 400 U.S. soldiers took part. Heavy incoming sniper and machine-gun fire fire pinned down the US on the street. INTRODUCTION Earlier this year I and fellow members of the Skirmish Wargames group staged a Russian Civil War demonstration games in 54mm scale at two wargames shows in Kent. Here’s a set of Ideas for Developing the Palitoy Battle of Balaclava Boardgame. Ed. In 1975 Palitoy published a family boardgame titled The Battle of Balaclava, designed by Malcolm Greensmith, a copy of which I obtained recently from ebay UK. The game offers an interesting attempt at representing the principal flow and events of the historical battle – the Russian capture of redoubts on the Causeway Heights; the 93rd Foot’s repulse of Russian cavalry; the almost simultaneous attack by the British Heavy Cavalry Brigade, and the infamous Charge of the Light Brigade down the North Valley into the mouths of Russian guns, all with very simple rules.
