FOR the love of the game! Tuscany Williams has successfully created a massive online community for women who love golf. It’s here that women come to freely share their passion for the sport, tips and techniques to improve their game, the highs and lows experienced on the course and connect with like-minded folk. Before the digital golfing community powerhouse that is now Women Who Golf was launched, Tuscany started up the ‘Women Who Golf Facebook Group’, which to her surprise went gangbusters almost straight away. 2023 has tee-offed with tournaments in full swing. Aus Open, Vic Open, Athena and HSBC Women’s Classic just to name a few. I’m so excited to see such support for women’s sport and in particular women’s golf. Most of these now televised. I can’t express how attending these events or watching can inspire and improve on your own game. I have just returned from the HSBC Women’s Classic in Singapore and those women played in torrential rain with suspended play multiple times under conditions we would not leave the house. GOLF is the new ‘it’ word and it has a new player. Australian Golf ’s National Strategy, released in December 2021, specifically calls out women and girls as the greatest opportunity to grow the game, with one in three across the country being swept up in the golf tidal wave that began during Covid. These women and girls have either started their journey via minigolf, a driving range or indoor simulator, or have indicated they want to begin. AS a coach, I have multiple clients who have goals including: achieving more consistency, lowering their handicap or gaining distance. These goals are achievable, but people tend to have an unrealistic timeframe or, don’t have an idea of how to achieve the main goal. To achieve the desired goal, I suggest creating a plan of action made up of small, achievable goals. A long-term goal can take up years to achieve whereas, short term goals can take a few months. They are the steppingstones to the main goal. Ticking them off provides encouragement that you are moving in the right direction.
