A lost sheep found in Canberra was shorn for potentially the first time ever recently, shedding almost half his body weight and delivering 40 kilograms of wool - or the equivalent of 30 sweaters. Chief Executive of the Canberra RSPCA,Tammy Ven Dange, rescued Chris the merino ram and said, “He’s looking really good, he looks like a new man” Champion sheep-shearer, Ian Elkins reported that despite being lost for a number of years, Chris appeared to be in good condition and believed the animal to be approximately five or six years old. Chris was discovered by bushwalkers near Mulligans Flat Woodland Sanctuary outside Canberra and was rescued by the RSPCA before being taken to a refuge and shorn whilst under anaesthetic. A group of Japanese tourism bosses are hoping to encourage cat-lovers to visit the city Onomichi, which is well-known for its 150,000 feline inhabitants. Cat street view will allow tourists to explore the city’s streets from the perspective of a feline. One tourism spokesman said, “We decided to focus on cats because they know everything about the city, including the back streets” Currently, the map just covers a couple of streets, but there are hopes to expand reach to cover more ground.The idea is the same as using Google Street View, however, everything is reflected from the height of a cat, offering the user an insight to what it’s like to be a feline living in the area. In another strange festival to add to this month’s wacky stories, local residents in the town of Nejapa, El Salvador, have recently participated in a festival to commemorate a volcanic eruption by hurling flaming, petrol-soaked rags at each other. According to folklore, hot lava that flowed into the town from a huge volcanic eruption in 1922, resulted in residents being forced to abandon the town and was then associated in the form of the local saint, Jeronimo. A group of dog who battled sub-Antarctic conditions to rid Macquarie Island of introduced in pests are being celebrated on a set of Australia Post stamps. Ranging from fr mostly Springer Spaniels to Labradors, there are 11 dogs being recognised for their tireless work to eradicate rabbits and rodents from Macquarie Island. According A to dog handler, Nancye Williams, the dogs are highly regarded and believes, “Macquarie Island would not have its rabbit and rodent-free status without these dogs... The annual World Gravy W restling Championships was held recently in Rossendale in the United Kingdom where 22 contestants competed in 396 gallons of beef gravy. The rules for the gravy wrestling were quite simple with participants required to roll around in the meaty liquid for two minutes. Points were awarded to wrestlers who inspired the biggest audience response. To make the event even more crazy, some gravy-loving contestants arrived in costumes, such as, Fred Flinstone, Gandalf from the Lord of the Rings and a chicken.
