If we jump to today, in 2020 we can see horticultural therapy being used in hospitals, prisons and in many purpose-built gardens. This is fantastic, but we are still not there at the forefront.
So, what I have discovered throughout my research so far is that actually gardening therapy has been used by medical practitioners for many years, but at some point along the way it got moved to one side as an option for only those with more serious needs or additional funds. The question ‘why?’ is something I wonder about regularly, with no defined answer as yet, but I do feel over the years, as the world has become itself less personal, more fast-paced, busy, impatient and digital, so has the intense need for quick fixes.
