Charles Dowding, pioneer and long-time advocate of the no-dig gardening method, has teamed up with gardener, writer and chef Stephanie Hafferty to produce No Dig Organic Home&Garden, a comprehensive guide to growing, cooking and harvesting your crops.
As you would expect, the book contains lots of practical information on the no-dig method, how to enrich and care for the soil, composting, mulching, sowing, planting, and protecting the crop from pests and diseases. There’s also plenty of specific guidance on growing individual crops, including herbs and edible flowers, plus harvesting, storing and seed saving.
Particularly intriguing was the chapter entitled DIY Potions for Your Garden, Home & Body, a miscellany of weird and wonderful concoctions for you to make, including lemon and cucumber shampoo, tansy insect spray and calendula flower tea.…
