Ahead of this year’s Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride on Sunday, 19 May, Triumph Motorcycles have announced their support for the annual global charity event that raises funds for prostate cancer research and men’s mental health initiatives will include a Thruxton Final Edition for the highest overall fundraiser, plus exclusive clothing packs for fundraisers in the Team Triumph riders’ group. Last year’s Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride (DGR) saw 106,000 riders dress dapper and ride classic and classically-styled motorcycles in 893 rides across 107 countries. The goal for 2024 is to see 1,000 rides globally, as part of the DGR’s “Side by Side, Worldwide” campaign. The wheels are in motion for the 2025 MotoGP grid, with Moto2 rider Fermin Aldeguer signing a deal with Ducati Corse that’ll put him on a Desmosedici GP bike for the next two seasons. The MotoGP deal is with Ducati Corse only, not a specific team, meaning the Spanish teenager could be added to any of the three satellite teams – Prima Pramac Racing, Gresini Racing and Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team – currently running the Desmosedici. After more than 30 years in charge of the motorcycle grand prix racing world championship known today as MotoGP, Dorna Sports SL has sold control of the global series to Liberty Media Corporation; the same company who purchased rights to the Formula 1 World Championship in 2017. Harley-Davidson have launched a new initiative aimed at making it easier for customers to get their first Harley – or their next one. ‘Harley Legend’ finance allows customers to loan motorcycles with lower monthly repayments than traditional loan providers. It also allows the Guaranteed Future Minimum Value (GFMV) of the motorcycle to be deferred to the final payment at the end of the loan term. This latter element is a first for the Australian motorcycle industry and not available from any other brand. What Royal Enfield are calling ‘Project Origin’ is an authentic recreation of the company’s very first motorcycle from 1901. Following their purchase of a 25.1 per cent stake in MV Agusta back in November, 2022, and a takeover of supply chain, purchasing and distribution operations for the Italian brand last October, KTM now has a controlling stake in the company. The purchase of an additional 25 per cent in March - taking KTM’s share to 50.1 per cent - wasn’t due to be made until the end of December, 2025, but has been exercised early. Having a majority stake in MV Agusta means that the Austrian giant now has “industrial management” over the brand, which in the medium term will see a planned increase in production capacity to more than 10,000 units annually. The annual awards, which recognise dealer excellence across a number of categories, have been won by the same handful of dealerships in recent years, but this time, a smaller dealership broke through to claim its first outright win. Mackay Harley-Davidson was crowned the overall Dealer of the Year for 2023, beating out past winners like Morgan & Wacker in Brisbane and Road and Sport M/C in Hamilton, NZ. Fabio Quartararo will remain with the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP team for at least another two seasons after signing a contract extension. Ending speculation around his move to another manufacturer, namely Aprilia, Quartararo re-signed with Yamaha on 5 April. The new deal will take the Frenchman’s time with Yamaha in the premier class to eight seasons and with the factory team to six seasons. At time of writing, the inaugural FIM Womens’ Circuit Racing World Championship was just a few weeks away from its opening round. A first for road racing, this all-new, all-female championship runs in conjunction with selected European rounds of the FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK). The six-round championship gets underway at Misano on 14-16 June and concludes at Jerez in October. All riders will be on the Yamaha YZF-R7. The FIM Womens’ Circuit Racing World Championship (WorldWCR) will feature Aussie representation, with Tayla Relph among the 24 female riders on the grid.
