As part of a major release of new and updated models announced in June, Kawasaki will bring back the ‘Eliminator’ name this year, applying it to an all-new LAMS cruiser based on the current 400cc parallel twin Ninja 400 and Z 400 models. Kawasaki unveiled the all-new model at the Osaka Motorcycle Show in March, with Japanese market release following in April. Australian release has recently been confirmed, with deliveries expected later this year. Whether the Eliminator will replace or supplement the LAMS-legal Vulcan S in Kawasaki’s lineup is unknown at this stage. MV Agusta will soon have a new distributor in Australia and New Zealand, with Urban Moto Imports to hand over the reins to KTM Group Australia & New Zealand after almost a decade in charge of the premium Italian marque’s local operations. The process of transition began in early June and will be completed by September. The transition in local MV Agusta distribution for both countries is part of a broader expansion of KTM’s role in MV Agusta’s future that started with Pierer Mobility AG (KTM’s parent company) taking over MV Agusta distribution in North America in September, 2022, then purchasing a 25.1 per cent stake in MV in November. David Walsh and KTM were once again victors at the Tatts Finke Desert Race, with the 33-year-old from Alice Springs taking his fourth consecutive King of the Desert crown at the annual off-road event. Walsh, riding for HMG Motorsport KTM, was one of 429 entrants across nine classes in the motorcycle category this year. Other riders in the same class as Walsh (Class 2 for 451cc+ four-stroke machines) included Callum Norton, Brodie Waters, Ivan Long and last year’s runner-up, Jacob Smith. The re-birth of Norton Motorcycles under TVS ownership and post-Stuart Garner continues, with details of a new model – the V4CR – recently revealed, following the re-engineered V4SV sports bike that was released last year. The first new model to be released following TVS’s acquisition of Norton Motorcycles in 2020, the V4CR (for ‘V4 Café Racer’) follows a prototype that was unveiled last year and is based on the V4SV. The rider roster for the 2024 Motul FIM Superbike World Championship has had its first shake up, with Toprak Razgatlioglu to leave Yamaha at the end of this season for the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK team. The announcement on 22 May led to immediate questions over who Razgatlioglu will replace at the BMW factory team, followed by who will take the Turk’s place at Yamaha. Currently, Scott Redding and Michael van der Mark are BMW’s factory riders. Kawasaki have presented the 2024 version of their Ninja ZX-6R, which like the current version, will be offered exclusively in ‘KRT Edition’ form, but gains several cosmetic and specification upgrades. While the fundamentals of this mid-sized sportsbike are unchanged, including its 636cc inline four engine, six-speed gearbox with KQS quick shifter, aluminium perimeter frame and adjustable suspension front and rear, there have been adjustments and improvements in many areas. ENGINE ALTERATIONS Power and torque from the liquid-cooled DOHC engine have been reduced slightly for the 2024 Ninja ZX-6R, down to 95.2kW (with Ram Air) at 13,000rpm and 69Nm at 11,000rpm compared to 100kW at 13,500rpm and 70.8Nm at 11,000rpm on the 2023 model.
