Jack Miller’s time with Ducati in MotoGP will come to an end at the conclusion of the 2022 season, as the Aussie has signed with KTM for the next two years. Ending weeks of rumours surrounding the 27-year-old’s future, the announcement on 8 June will see Miller join Brad Binder at Red Bull KTM Factory Racing for the 2023 and 2024 MotoGP seasons. Miller’s arrival comes at the expense of Miguel Oliveira, who, ironically, has delivered KTM’s only race win this year at time of writing. The KTM deal is something of a homecoming for Miller, who rode for the Austrian brand as part of Aki Ajo’s squad in 2014, his final year in Moto3. Shannons Timed Online Autumn Auction was a big one for fans of classic and collectable motorcycles, with a diverse array of bikes offered and some impressive prices achieved. Conducted from 17 to 24 May, there were 41 motorcycle lots on offer, covering everything from a tiny Honda Motocompo to a blinged up Harley-Davidson Panhead tourer. Amongst the more desirable consignments were motorcycles and sidecars from the collection of Bruce Armfield, including a rare C1914 Hobart two-stroke single, a C1955 Triumph T100 and two German-made Steib sidecars. Leading the way, though, was a 1949 Vincent HRD Rapide. As a Vincent owner and former president of the Vincent H.R.D. The first example of the limited-edition 2022 Superveloce Ago produced by MV Agusta has been auctioned by Bonhams at their annual Goodwood Festival of Speed Sale, with all proceeds going to the UNICEF Ukraine emergency fund. Announced late last year as a tribute to 15-time World Champion Giacomo Agostini, production of the Superveloce Ago was limited to just 311 examples, reflecting the number of race wins the Italian achieved over his 17-year grand prix career. Based on the standard Superveloce and using the same 798cc three-cylinder engine producing 109kW and 188Nm, the Ago variant adds fully-adjustable Öhlins suspension, carbon fibre bodywork, reshaped windshield and a livery inspired by Agostini’s racing bikes. At the Portuguese round of the Motul FIM Supersport World Championship, Oli Bayliss achieved the best result of his rookie World Supersport season at time of writing, with a sixth-place finish in Race 2 under challenging conditions. Riding a Ducati Panigale V2 for Barni Spark Racing Team, Bayliss’s best finish prior to this had been 11th at the Dutch round. After previewing the model back in March, the Australian rollout of Royal Enfield’s new ‘Scram 411’ began in June, with the stylish street scrambler now in dealerships. Royal Enfield are calling the Scram 411 a new category of motorcycle – an ‘adventure crossover’ that’s agile on the street and capable beyond. Based on the popular Himalayan adventure tourer, but aimed more at urban use, the Scram 411 uses the Himalayan’s frame, as well as its 17.88kW/32Nm LS-410 single-cylinder engine, five-speed gearbox, brakes, suspension and other cycle parts. Valentino Rossi’s famous ‘46’ will no longer be seen on a bike in MotoGP, with the number officially retired from the premier class, six months after the man himself retired. Outside of active or recent riders who died in competition - Marco Simoncelli’s #58, Nicky Hayden’s #69 and Daijiro Kato’s #73 are examples - retirement of a racing number has rarely been applied, so the removal of #46 is unusual.
