Suzuki have dropped a bombshell in the MotoGP paddock, announcing their intention to withdraw from the premier class at the end of this season, only one year into a five-year contract. Suzuki previously left the premier class from 2012 to 2014 inclusive, but that was at the end of a contract, not the start like this time, and came with a commitment to return to the series. This latest exit comes with no such commitment. Harley-Davidson have launched a new addition to their range in the Nightster. While it revives a Sportster model name from the recent past and takes styling cues from the old, air-cooled Sportster family, the Nightster is a modern machine in every other respect. Following February’s announcement that Wayne Rainey would ride his championship-winning 1992 Yamaha YZR 500 at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, it’s been confirmed that the three-time 500cc World Champion will be joined by Mick Doohan, Kevin Schwantz and Kenny Roberts at the UK event. In what Goodwood event organisers are describing as a truly historic moment, Rainey will take on the famous Goodwood hillclimb course on his actual YZR500 from the 1992 championship season, which has been modified to allow the paraplegic American to ride. The sudden passing this May of four-time Victorian Superbike Champion, Nathan Jones, has sent shock waves through the close-knit Victorian road racing community. The 37-year-old died on 22 May as the result of a dirt bike accident on his rural property in Moe, 130 kilometres east of Melbourne. A beloved figure within the Victorian Road Racing Championship (VRRC), as well as the Hartwell Motorcycle Club Championship series, Jones began road racing at state level in 2010, aboard a Honda CBR 600RR in the Victorian Supersport Championship. Moving up to the Superstock 1000 class the following year, Jones raced a CBR 1000RR Fireblade.
